Munger Fort
Overview
Munger Fort is a historic fort complex situated in Munger city on the southern banks of the Ganges. Built on a rocky outcrop, the fort is surrounded by a massive stone wall and moat. The fort grounds contain various historical buildings, including the tomb of Pir Shah Nufa, the palace of Mir Qasim, and the Bihar School of Yoga (first yoga university in the world).
History & Origins
Dating back to the Bengal Sultanate and early Mughal periods, the fort was captured by the British in 1763 after defeating Mir Qasim, who had moved his capital from Murshidabad to Munger.
